Assignment Sheet Reference number
3.3: Synopsis of your complete film
The objectives of this task are:
1. To outline the framework within which your opening sequence will have meaning.
2. To be able to discuss the representations you have chosen to portray.
3. To be able to consider preferred and alternative readings and the impact of these on your target audience.
NOTE: Using diagrams, mindmaps, annotated images, photos and other visual answers is encouraged.
1. In 250 words, outline the characters, setting, plot and narrative structure (chronology, point of view etc.). From these 4 elements it should be clear what genre you are planning to work in.
2. Discuss the representations you aim to create for particular groups of society through your main characters. The following questions might help:
- What are their distinguishing features?
- What role do they play in the society/community in your film?
- Are you using or subverting stereotypes?
2.1. Explain how these representations might impact on your target audience:
- How do you want the audience to respond to each character?
(In other words, what is your preferred reading?)
- What alternative readings might be possible?
- Considering preferred and alternative readings, what are the different ways your target audience might respond to your film?
Complete 24th February. Well done!
